Duration: Fall semester 2020
Class: Entrepreneurial Marketing
Problem: Develop a business to address the coming challenges in the future job market.
My role: Branding/logo/Packaging/Graphics.
Team Members: Xander, Alexis, Lia, Araya
Research
Process: As a team we brainstormed and came up with a few ideas each. We also did individual research to help form our ideas, such as reading articles and looking at business trends and problems with existing solutions. After discussing our ideas we found a common theme we were all trying to address with our ideas. We were trying to create a service that would aid gig workers and freelancers, and with the economy becoming more and more short term gig jobs we aimed to create a business that would help people get a job.
Challenges
Branding: I needed to create a brand that fit the messaging of our company vision.
Logo: I would need to create a logo that would grab the attention of the customer.
Graphics: I had to create graphic and images that would show the brand in action.
Webpage: I would have to create a mock web page that would bring our vision to life.
Learnings
Though this process we learned that conceptualizing a business and its brand is a very tough task to tackle. We learned that divide and conquer was key in executing our vision. Our divide and conquer approach helped us with time management as well, if someone finished what they needed to early they were able to help another team member with their work. At the end of the semester we presented our work to the class and our professor, and they loved it. Our professor said “you really but a lot of time and effort into your idea and it shows. Excellent excellent work you guys
Solution
The Name: Netlance. Net meaning networking and Lance being a node to freelancing.
Color: The first thing I did was choose the colors that would represent Netlance as a company. I ultimately chose blue, orange, white, because blue conveys competence, loyalty, reliability. Orange conveys friendliness, freedom, and optimism. Lastly white conveys simplicity, openness, clarity, and unity. The qualities and characteristics were all things we wanted the brand to have. The color orange was also a nod to the blue color audience and the blue was a nod to the more tech jobs. I choose a angular typeface and put it in italic to create motion. The arrow on the L in lance and the motion in the type are to give a sense of moving forward to your next gig or job.
